A Tad About Me
Hi, I'm Kyi.
Steemit is a forum which I will be posting a bit about my personal journey along with some travel, food, and design ideas.
If you pass me on the street, you would think that I'm a pretty normal individual and possibly from a privileged background - but that's far from the case. I'm a bit goofy and quirky - meaning I never really fit in in High School. My family and I escaped our oppressed country, Burma, when I was seven with very little money and basically hid in Bangkok, Thailand where we anxiously awaited for nine months to get sponsorship to the US.
We eventually, settled in Ithaca, NY - this very hippy dippy town in Upstate New York which is also the home of Cornell University. Somehow, I got lucky with not having the typical "Asian" parents; they never asked my brother and I to study hard in school to become a lawyer or a doctor. Instead, they encouraged us to do what we love, which honestly is confusing for a child! All the possibilities!
I ended up graduating from Cornell University with a degree in Hotel Management but discovered at Cornell that I could no longer suppress by artistic side. Right after Cornell, I went to Savannah College of Art and Design and received my MFA in Interior Design. After seven eerily long years of studying for what I thought were my passions plus working in the real world at top hotel design firms - I'm back to square one.
Currently back in my hometown taking care of my mom who went through a major surgery and basically figuring out what life means to me. When I was in school, I had passion and I was excited to work on my projects and my ideas. Working in a corporate environment sucked the life out of me.
I hope you guys can take this journey of re-self discovery with me while getting to know who "Kyi" really is from the beginning of my journey.
Cheers!
Kyi
