Sustainability photo competition

Eek! What is that mess? That is the remnants of a bedroom flooring project. What to do with that gross old carpet and underlay?
This May we are getting 300 blue spruce babies to plant along our dugout on the other side of the quarter. I'm currently finishing the permaculture design course by regenerative.com so in my new permacultury brain I thought to myself..."omg this will be awesome ground cover for the trees!" Last year we put in 500 larch, maples, sea buckthorn, choke cherry, white spruce, green ash, and I used old mouldy hay for mulch. It worked well but we do get a lot of wind so I'm uber excited to try the carpet, I think it will work wonders.
