Localized Lockdowns Will Make Covid19 Spread Faster
There's a call in government and in communities to have localized lockdowns to isolate and quarantine hotspots, rather than doing a nationwide lockdown.
There's only one problem:
When you lock down one area because it's a hotspot, the people in that area will drive to areas that aren't locked down and do business there, spreading the virus to low-infection areas and creating new hotspots.
On the other hand, with a complete shutdown, people are less likely to travel and therefore less likely to spread the virus.
From a business standpoint, localized lockdowns sound better, but in truth it is six in one hand, a half dozen in the other hand.
One could argue that governments are deliberately enacting hotspot shutdowns to spread the virus, but I prefer to fall back on Hanlon's Razer, where its better to assume stupidity unless you can absolutely prove malice. But it is what it is, and anyone who thinks the virus is a hoax at this point is brainwashed.
The spanish Flu made it's mark in the second wave, and Covid likely will too if it ever does. In the eastern hemisphere of the world (Europe, Asia) they are starting to see a second wave, and the charts are going parabolic already, both cases and deaths.
Had there been a worldwide enforced lockdown for 6 weeks all at once, the virus would be gone. But, such measures would only backfire anyway. There is no solution that pleases everyone.
Stay safe out there.
