African Elephants (Monomad Challenge)

A few years back we took a holiday in Kenya. To say I loved it would be an understatement of elephantine proportions. The people, the culture, the wildlife. Such a wonderful wonderful experience. The hotel was perfect but the safari was out of this world.

It was a bumpy ride getting to the main road that took us to Tsavo East reserve. Red and dusty and littered with small townships and random roadside garages.
It seemed we had no sooner entered the reserve than we met our first elephants. Ambling across the road with not a concern.

These creatures are magnificent up close and wild, unless, as happened to our group, a massive bull elephant decided to stare us down. Obviously looking after his herd he stood there in front almost saying, "come on then, give it a go". We didn't. Obviously. We backed up slowly and waited for the herd to move on, before we too moved on to our first lodge for a tasty and much welcomed lunch.

We enjoyed the trip so much we booked again as soon as we got home. Unfortunately there was a significant terrorist incident a few months after we got back so all holidays were cancelled. Maybe one day I will get back there.
