Maximum Mutual Benefit has officially left the lab
Some projects announce themselves long before they're ready. A flashy logo, a roadmap, a countdown timer and enough buzzwords to keep LinkedIn entertained for a week. MMB took the opposite route. For the past months it has simply been... there, quietly running in the background while we kept changing numbers, rewriting code, throwing away ideas that looked brilliant at two o'clock in the morning and turned out to be considerably less brilliant once actual people started using them. Which, if you've spent enough years building software, bots or really anything involving humans, is less of a surprise than it sounds.
Somewhere during all that testing I realised we weren't really testing a token anymore. We were testing an idea. An idea that had quietly become the glue connecting all of our tipping bots together, and one that actually rewarded the behaviour we wanted to encourage instead of simply rewarding whoever happened to own the biggest wallet.
Today that testing phase ends.
MMB, short for Maximum Mutual Benefit, is officially live.
One token instead of six
One thing had been bothering me for quite a while. Every bot had its own token, every token had its own perks, every community had its own little ecosystem... and before you knew it, someone who simply enjoyed supporting people across Hive suddenly needed a small collection of different tokens just to unlock essentially the same benefits everywhere.
That never felt quite right.
So MMB became something different. Instead of asking people to collect six different tokens, we made one token that acts as a master key across the entire fleet. Hold MMB, and your level automatically follows you across

Simple enough that you don't need a spreadsheet to remember it. (Although, admittedly, I do like spreadsheets.)
You earn MMB by participating
Another decision that survived every redesign was that MMB shouldn't primarily exist to be bought. There's nothing wrong with people trading it later on, of course, but that was never meant to be its reason for existing.
MMB is first and foremost something you earn by participating in the ecosystem.
That means you can receive MMB by:
reaching tipping milestones (100, 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 tips)
becoming the weekly top tipper
finishing on the monthly leaderboard
winning it through the raffle
The raffle itself also becomes a little more interesting once you hold MMB, because your winnings are multiplied according to your level, all the way up to double the normal reward.
In other words, the more you're involved, the more the ecosystem starts working in your favour. Which seemed considerably more fitting than simply rewarding whoever clicked the biggest buy order.
Burning isn't a gimmick
Scarcity is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot in crypto. Every project claims its token is scarce, while quietly keeping the option open to mint more later if it ever feels convenient.
We wanted something simpler.

In return, you receive a temporary level boost across the entire bot fleet, lasting up to 72 hours depending on how much MMB you burned. The more people use that feature, the fewer MMB remain in circulation.
That's not marketing.
That's simply how the token was designed.
Everything is visible
I've never liked reward systems that require blind trust. If people are going to invest time into something, they should be able to see exactly how they're doing without digging through blockchain explorers or exporting half the chain into Excel.
That's why the new My MMB dashboard now lives at https://tipping.botlord.eu.
Enter your Hive username and you'll immediately see:

your level across every bot
how close you are to the next milestone
your leaderboard position
every MMB reward you've earned
your raffle history
every bot's remaining fuel
No guessing.
No hidden calculations.
Just the numbers.
Don't trust us. Verify us.
This is probably the feature I'm most quietly proud of.
Every raffle draw starts with a secret whose fingerprint is published beforehand. The secret itself only becomes public later, after which every single winning draw can be independently recalculated from public blockchain data.
That means you don't have to trust us when we say the raffle was fair.

Personally, I think that's how blockchain applications should work more often. "Trust me" is useful. "Here's the math" is better.
A thank you to the early believers
Before today, MMB had already been quietly running for quite some time, and during that period 84 people were actively using the bots while we kept improving everything around them. They found bugs we hadn't seen, confirmed ideas that actually worked, and occasionally reminded us that users have an impressive talent for clicking exactly the one thing you didn't expect them to click.
Without that group, MMB would almost certainly have looked different today.
As a thank you, we distributed 1,860 MMB across those early users, scaled according to their activity during the testing period.
If you tipped through our bots before today, it's worth checking your wallet.
You may already own some MMB without even realising it.
We wanted to launch it fairly
One thing we felt strongly about from the beginning was that it would be rather awkward to build an ecosystem around mutual benefit while quietly keeping most of the rewards for ourselves.
So before launch we made a few decisions.
We burned a substantial part of our own allocation.
Most of what remained was moved into the community treasury, where it can only flow back into the ecosystem through rewards.
We kept a relatively modest personal stake.
And both 
The result is that the overwhelming majority of all existing MMB is either already in the community's hands or sitting in the reward pool waiting to be earned.
That simply felt like the only honest way to do it.
Built around the Alive spirit
MMB wasn't created in isolation. Both of us have been building around the Alive ecosystem for years now, and in many ways this project simply continues that same philosophy.
Make supporting people a little more rewarding.
Give communities better tools.
Build things that quietly keep working in the background, because infrastructure is usually doing its job best when nobody really notices it's there.
And, if I'm honest, that's probably what I enjoy building most anyway.
