Kinderdijk - The Netherlands

Kinderdijk is an area in The Netherlands, only 15Kms from Rotterdam, situated at the confluence of two rivers, the Lek and the Noord. In 1740, 19 windmills were built there to pump away the excess water and drain the area, making this the largest group of windmills in The Netherlands, and one of the biggest tourist attractions in The Netherlands as well.
Since 1997, the windmills are protected by the Unesco heritage.

I had seen thousands and thousands of the most wonderful pictures pass by on social media, yet never had we been there. Actually, I knew it was in The Netherlands, but never thought it would be so close to our home.
One day, we needed to pick up an order in The Netherlands, and low and behold, while driving there, we saw a reference to Kinderdijk... So off the highway we went, and we checked it out. The weather was incredibly bad that day, so we didn't really get out of the car. But, we decided to tell the kids about it, and go back there on a beautiful day.
And so we did!
