What is Tezos?
Tezos is a decentralized blockchain (Just like Bitcoin or Ethereum) that governs itself by establishing a true digital commonwealth and facilitates formal verification.
What does that even mean?
To make it simple, users who own the tezos coin (or tez) decides on how it gets upgraded or changed due to its user governance (similar to DASH). This prevents the system from forks.
It's also like ethereum which makes smart contracts (also has their own language) and in the future will also utilize the proof of stake consensus which makes transactions faster and easier.
This is one of the most expected ICO's of the year and it is also being backed up by top venture capitalist Tim Draper so expect a lot of people interested in this.
