CROCHET BUCKET HAT
Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. It is Hat season and today I am sharing my latest hat creation with the community. It is strange going back to bucket hats after I have spent the last few months making mostly ruffle hats.
To be honest I was getting tired of making ruffle hats, the ruffles were beginning to get to me. I know I shouldn’t complain because the final piece is always worth it but the process was becoming hectic and I needed something different to get me going.
I was scrolling through my for-you page on TikTok when I came across this granny square pattern, I just had to work with it and it was perfect because I already had it in mind to make a bucket hat.
The colour choice for this hat was pretty simple, I am trying to use up my stash of leftover yarn, I have a lot of small yarns in different colours taking up so much space in my corner because I am fond of going to get colours without checking if I had them before, then I get back and find out I have a bunch left over before. I am trying to work on that habit this year.
I am a fan of dark colors so the green I had in my stash was perfect. Once I had decided on the colors I got started on the bucket hat. Working with this pattern was way easier than I had expected. When I initially saw it, it was the pretty yet complicated look that drew me to it.
However, it was a breeze. It was quite straightforward, another thing that took me by surprise was the fact that it did not consume much yarn. I had expected it to take up a lot of yarn because I was used to granny squares taking quite a bit of yarn but I would say it takes less yarn than regular granny squares.
I made a total of 4 squares, since that is what I hoped I would need to go around my head. I did not use a particular measurement, I just eyeballed it and thankfully it does fit perfectly. I do feel like adding one extra square would not have affected the fitting so much, for now this is perfect.
I then went ahead and made the top of the hat and attached it to the squares. When I was done with that I worked on the down of the hat and I was done. This whole process took about a day, off and on.
Here is the final look, I hope you like it.
