Weekly contest #268. It's heartbreaking💔💔 but meaningful and necessary
It's always a pleasure to engage in the weekly contest posted by ladies of hive. They give me the platform to share my experience and that I'm grateful for 🥰🥰.
Holidays are usually seen as a time to relax, spend time with family, and take a break from daily routines. However, some jobs are essential even during holidays, and without these workers, celebrations would not be safe or enjoyable. Doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters, shop assistants, and transport workers often have to work while others are resting.
I have personally experienced working during a holiday. Last year, during Christmas holiday, I worked part-time at a supermarket cus I couldn't afford not to, I really needed the job then, I could only comfort myself by telling myself that I was doing humanitarian work because many people needed to buy food for family meals or last-minute supplies, so the store had to remain open. While it was disappointing not to spend the whole day with my family, I understood that my job was important. Customers often thanked us for being open, and that made the experience feel worthwhile.
In addition, I have also seen how demanding holiday work can be through my step mum, who is a police officer. She often works night shifts during public holidays, including New Year’s Day and Christmas. While the rest of the family celebrates, she is making sure that the law takes it cause, she also try's to make lawless citizens adhere to the rules and regulations of the country and at the same time seek justice for the victims. Although she sometimes feels tired or misses special moments, she takes pride in helping others during these important times.
Working on holidays can be challenging because it requires personal sacrifice. People may miss family gatherings, traditions, or moments of rest. However, these jobs are essential to keep society functioning and safe. The efforts of holiday workers often go unnoticed, but their contribution is extremely valuable.
In conclusion, although holidays are meant for rest, some people must continue working for the benefit of others. My experience and the example of my step mom have shown me that working on holidays is not easy, but it is meaningful and necessary.
