British Airways Hacked...

I think it should be obvious that companies cannot be trusted to handle our data. If they are capable of protecting it, then they have invested so much in their infrastructure, that they will likely begin to monetize any consumer data they have access to. What rationale would make sharing your data with a corporation without compensation beneficial to the user?

It makes more sense for consumers to have their own data behind some sort of encrypted blockchain identity, so that they can sign for things like plane tickets, bank accounts, or utility service with this identity, without the corporation ever seeing or handling that person's legal name, social security number, etc.

Then when that entity gets hacked, only the cryptographic identities would be leaked, keeping consumers protected. How many years before that's a possibility?
