Dragon Wars- Splinterlands Art Contest
What's Popping!!!!
Another beautiful week and opportunity to be a part of the Splinterlands Art Contest.
Didn't win this week but then we go again. Congratulations as usual to the winners , y'all inspire everyone of us.
Thought to deviate a bit from the fire series and true something more cool, refreshing and what else than a dragon war!!
Lol
Card inspo came from
One of my favorite card because of its amazing water abilities.
Let's get down to it!
Process
I'm going to keep straight to the point and simple
1- sketch and line art: I figure out a pose, I sketch out a couple poses and settle on one. And then I move on
to linear, it's kinda like inking over the sketch.
2- flats: after the lineart I paint in the flat colours, I colour within the lines of course
3-shadows: after the colours I paint in the shadows. I usually use darker colours of the existing flat colours to do this. In the case darker colours of red and blue and then dark grey. I use different dark shades of the colours to give the piece more depth.
4- highlights: next I put the highlights, just like shadows only I use light colours for this one. I also the lighter colours to create some details like the dragon skin.
5- details: I paint in some details on the rock some of the dragon features like the teeth and claws. And then I add more details until I'm satisfied.
6- background: I keep the background pretty simple, just a gradient of two colours, blueish grey and even darker grey. Next I add some fog effect with the air brush. Then I paint in a water splash, then I filter the water splash layer to motion blur to give it more effect and what not.
Then I paint some snow, motion blur that too and finally add final details to the piece like the pre-fire breath for the red dragon and the some more skin details on the sea monster and then voila! The piece is finished.
I call this piece monster wars.
Piece took 8 hours
Software used was Krita
