Day Out: Attending Labor Day Event at Cebu Provincial Capitol
A lovely day to everyone! It’s my first time posting in this wonderful community of creative and hardworking Hivers. I wish you a blessed and stress-free day. My sharing is about a happening last Labor Day.
We planned to go walking just within the neighborhood in the early morning. Unfortunately, it suddenly rained so we just cancelled the plan. The rain made us feel like going to bed again but we tried our best not to feel lazy. So, we did some house errands at least to make our morning productive. My partner checked his motorcycle that needed a little maintenance while I segregated some old clothes that I could donate.
The morning went peacefully and the rain had stopped hours ago so the sky became bright again. Since it was the 1st of May, Labor Day, we read from social media that there was an event held at the Cebu Provincial Capitol. So, we decided to go there in the afternoon.
We entered at the back entrance because it was nearer to the parking space. It was my first time seeing the adjacent building at the back and I got attracted to its tall white columns. The top is adorned with symbolic statues in Roman attire painted in gold color. The tall white columns had a nice contrast with the bright blue sky and golden statues.
At this point, people were lining up to register themselves. We didn’t pay much attention to that because our intention was to buy some farm produce and especially the traditional carabao cheese made from Compostela, Cebu; cheese that is wrapped in banana leaves and made from fresh carabao’s milk.
Inside, I saw some lists of local business owners with pictures showing their products such as food catering, baked goods, local delicacies, footwear, and so on.
At the front entrance… We went to where the vendors were located. Unfortunately, they were busy packing up as it was almost 5 in the afternoon and some of them still had to go back to their hometowns. The traditional cheese was already sold out and these were the only products left. I was really hoping we could buy the cheese because I got curious of its taste. I enjoy supporting events that can also benefit local businesses and so their products also become more popular to local customers.
Traditional vinegar made from fermented coconut water; some spices were added for more flavor. I prefer vinegar from coconut water because it is organic and I don’t get that acidic feeling after eating.
Fresh from their farm: banana, papaya, cucumber, avocado, eggplant, mango, tomato, yam, sweet potato…
The road in front of the capitol was closed because a political rally was set to happen that evening and they constructed a temporary stage, so we were able to walk in front of the capitol. Normally, this is a busy road.
I love the contrast of the bright blue sky and the green trees lined up along the street.
The event was about to finish; some vehicles came to pick up the vendors. The main road in front was closed so we could stand in front to take these photos. We just took the chance to walk a bit around here while the road was temporarily closed to vehicles.
I was thankful that we had a nice weather that afternoon and we could go to the event even if it was for a short time only. I hope to join more events where I could support or help promote local products.
Thank you for your interest. My heartfelt gratitude to @lauramica for giving us avenue to share our daily life experiences. Take Care!
