Hello, hello, internet! How are you all doing? Today, I want to take you through my personal ranking of what I consider to be the best Jane Austen books, from the one I like least to the one I like most (and I don't mean to imply that I dislike any of Austen's books—just that there are some I enjoy more than others 😃).

This novel lives up to its name; right from the start, the protagonist, Anne Elliot, is persuaded by her family to break off her engagement to the officer Frederick Wentworth—whom they deem poor and unworthy—and she chooses to heed their advice rather than listen to her own heart. However, years later, he returns with great wealth and prestige—much like the Count of Monte Cristo. While the ending is happy and uplifting, as is typical of Austen’s novels, the work consistently critiques the prejudices and social norms of the era—conventions that serve only to ruin relationships and cause unhappiness in the name of "stability" or even "good judgment."

The plot of this novel is fascinating; it maintains the classic premise of love set against the hypocrisy of English high society—the magic formula of Austen’s books—yet it differs somewhat. Fanny is a poor girl suddenly sent to live with her wealthy aunt and uncle; however, she is viewed merely as the "poor relation," looked down upon with disdain. Naturally, this makes her feel miserable, so her only refuge is her cousin Edmund, with whom she gradually falls in love (Ugh! Gross—sorry, but that’s incestuous, hehe). In any case, a major scandal that ruins the family's reputation exposes where such hypocrisy leads—specifically, ignoring one's own feelings or human nature in favor of imposed social norms—ultimately resulting in a loss of ethical values ​​and making the cure worse than the disease.

Emma Woodhouse is a romantic young woman who delights in matchmaking among her friends, enjoying the role of Cupid; however, her flaw—shared by most people in her social circle and era—is that she prioritizes convenience over genuine feeling, judging the quality of a relationship based on political or social standing. Yet, time and circumstance prove her wrong, and she ultimately learns her lesson. The novel satirizes the prevailing obsession with marriage and the formation of families—arrangements that often served merely to satisfy societal expectations, with no regard for love, mutual desire, or compatibility. The story is narrated from Emma’s perspective, allowing us to experience her ideas as if they were absolute truths while also witnessing her significant personal growth.

This novel tells the story of the Dashwood sisters, who fall into financial hardship following their father's death, as they are left in the care of their half-brother and dependent on a meager allowance he is obliged to provide. The three sisters have very different personalities: the youngest is fun-loving, cheerful, and—true to her age—impulsive; Marianne, the middle daughter, is spontaneous and lively but deeply passionate, experiencing her emotions fully and surrendering to them without reservation; meanwhile, the eldest sister, Elinor, is the exact opposite—sensible, reserved, perhaps even too restrained, and always putting others before herself. Although Elinor and Marianne have contrasting personalities, they complement one another and serve as a stabilizing influence for each other. My favorite character is Colonel Brandon; his patience and chivalry melted my heart and ultimately won over Marianne, healing the wounds of her past heartbreak in the process.

It is hands down my favorite novel, mainly because I love "enemies-to-lovers" stories, haha. Elizabeth Bennet embodies pride; she is a determined woman who refuses to let others belittle her, stands up for her ideals despite criticism, and never gives up—which is why she’s my heroine. Mr. Darcy, on the other hand, is a sensible man but highly prejudiced; he fails to see beyond his own reality and tends to judge everyone based on appearances or their behavior in a given moment. The novel is fascinating because we get to experience events that significantly shape the characters' growth, as each of them makes concessions to truly complement the other. No, seriously—I love this novel, and I absolutely love Mr. Darcy, hehe. 😄
