Gold's Use Case

Welcome to another #silvergoldstackers post. Featured on today's post is a gold Tauco chain bracelet. Bought this last 2021 and its style is joined loops which made it appear bigger than it actually weighs. This measures at 8 inches and weighs around 3.3 grams. In today's topic I will also be sharing with you some facts about gold and why I am invested in it. There is more to gold besides from being an excellent store of value. Let's explore it's different use cases.

My previous article was about some issues about investing in gold. You can read about it here.

Medicine

Gold has medical applications, including the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Gold compounds are used to reduce inflammation in some autoimmune diseases. It also has proven anti bacterial properties. Gold nanoparticles have shown promise in killing certain bacteria without harming human cells, leading to potential future applications in antibacterial coatings and medical devices.

Technology

Gold is a great conducter and is heavily used in electronic devices. It is so in deamand that recycling electronic waste can yield a significant amount of gold. In fact, a ton of discarded mobile phones contains more gold than a ton of gold ore.

Culinary

Gold is edible. Gold leaf, often used for decorative purposes on food and drinks, is safe to eat. It's non-toxic and passes through the digestive system without being absorbed.

Jewelry

Well we all know about this one. Gold is malleable that it can be formed into jewelry. It is often that we could see gold being mixed with other metals to form harder alloys as pure gold is soft and may not be good for everyday use. Mixing it with other metals could also produce different colors of gold jewelry.

Space Exploration

Gold-coated polyester film, known as "gold foil," is used as a thermal insulation material in spacecraft, satellites, and space suits to reflect and dissipate heat. The James Webb telescope for example has gold coated mirrors.

From google: This metal is extremely reflective of both visible light and other forms of radiation, particularly in the infrared range. The gold coating optimizes the function of these mirrors. Our basic silver and aluminum mirrors here on Earth reflect 85-95% of infrared light, whereas gold reflects 99%.

Dentistry

Similar to its medical use, gold is used in orthodontics because it does not corrode. Gold alloys are used in dental crowns, bridges, and other dental prosthetics due to their biocompatibility and resistance to corrosion in the oral environment.

Whether as a currency, investment, or art gold is... well gold. These use cases demonstrate the versatility and enduring value of gold in various industries and applications, from aesthetics and technology to science and finance.
