A day in my life as a mother and a food vendor, Making my day more productive, Selling Filipino food delicacy that you gonna love to try.
Hello hive's family, it’s me again @badeth34.
How are you today? I hope everything finds.
I want to share with you what I cooked today.
I wake up early to prepare everything, because my husband is going to work and my kids go to school. After all the chores in the house, I need to cook snack to sell, for an extra income. Last day, my uncle brought his harvested (saba) bananas to sell. He always brings them here when he harvests his banana plants, he sell for 25.00 pesos in 1 kl,it reached 22 kgs.all the bananas he sold to me.. So I decided to make banana suman to sell as well. Banana suman sells well here in our area, for only 3 for 20.00 pesos. To make banana suman , we need 4 ingredients only, green banana, melted butter or margarine, brown sugar, shredded young coconut and vanilla (optional). You can add also grated cheese if you want creamy.
So I took the 100 pieces green bananas and first I removed the right stalk, and then I washed individually to remove dirt and sap. Then I cut them in half, but the halves shouldn't separate so they don't come apart. Just like the love between you and your partner, it shouldn't separate. Hehehe.I will not separate the banana peel after the flesh shredded because I will use it to wrap the grated banana for a new version of suman, since when you say” suman” here in the Philippines, it is wrapped in banana leaves, suman here is sticky rice cake made from glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk, often wrapped in banana for steaming. So in this recipe I will not using banana leaf to wrap the mixture, I will return it to the original look when I cook it; it taste so good.
Then, I picked a young coconut from the fence to add to the ingredients I would use. After that, I grated the coconut and set it aside. Now, my mom and I grated the banana flesh. My mom helped me to make my work easier. Next, after we all grate the banana flesh, I melt margarine and set aside, and then I ready also the sugar and vanilla.
Next the entire ingredient is ready; I put them together, and then mix properly. Place the mixtures on the banana peels, remember the half partner of the sliced banana should be returned to the pair, so it's easy to arrange in the steamer, and the bananas should not be filled too much with the mixture to avoid waste.
My mom use black basin, and i use the aluminum one, then we need to combine it together in the black basin because it is larger than the other one.
If everything is done, arrange them in the steamer. Heat water over the fire and place the bananas, cover, and wait for them to cook. You will know that it is almost cooked when the color of the banana peel changes. It's best to check the inside to see if it is really cooked. That all banana suman is ready to sell/ eat’ the procedure is simple, but making banana suman is labor-intensive. However, your hard work pays off when everything you sell is sold out. Hehehe. Sometimes, we don't even get to taste what we've worked hard for because there aren't enough for the buyers, so I always set aside some for my children because they really ask for it.
It look messy but the inside is delicious.
Who has tried making this recipe? even if it's just wrap on a banana leaf? This snack is delicious, especially paired with coffee or any beverages. Have a great day ahead.Hope you enjoy reading.
