Quick step by step mixing tutorial part 5

Hello there. How's it going? To continue our bass processing from my last post I will introduce you Neural DSP Darkglass Ultra plugin which is combination of processing pedal and cabinet with different mic choices. Whether you are looking for metal bass or funk bass this will delivers all the goods. It has two different circuits, one is based on Darkglass B7K ultra pedal and the other based on Darkglass Vintage ultra which respectively are distortion and overdrive pedals. Here you can hear the B7K mode. Unprocessed: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17ILL3LwzvZILHC1U0JBkJ1U7bfmw6BOd/view?usp=drivesdk

Ok so get back to our topic, in this mix I used these settings:

The idea for metal tone is to getting equivalent low-end and high-end at the same time. Based on your guitar and rig you can check that with visual equalizers like Fabfilter pro-q. In my case I lower the bass and low-mid, fair amount of hi-mid and fairly high treble. Set the drive and blend fairly high and engage the grunt switch.
Now we can go for the cab and mic. 20200425222756.jpg
Dynamic 52a which is based on Shure Beta 52a translates lots of low-end in a good way and blended with Sennheiser 421 gives you all the brightness and sizzle. I will leave you here because getting that desired tone takes time and experiment. Move the mics around and find that sweet spot. That's how I find my tone but having a reference is always crucial to audio engineers which helps for better judgement. Happy hunting!
