Lights Out for Reality TV? The Ban Debate Explained
Hello Hive Learners Community! Welcome to my blog. Social media is nowadays in its most modern form. Anyone can pretend to be a social influencer and have opportunities to share their interests. I have witnessed thousands of YouTube Channels where topics related to beauty, wealth, and relationships are promoted. No one can stop the proliferation of these shows, although they are affecting our society, especially our youth, a lot. What they watch on screen, they happily practise in our surroundings.
Entertainment Or Exploration
There was a time when our ancestors liked to watch TV with us. At that time reality TV shows were part of learning. Every show had a moral lesson and was family-oriented. These shows were indeed affecting our society positively.
I still remember my favourite Reality TV shows. Among all that I like the most was Life in the Desert. This show was mainly focused on topics like poverty, lack of education in rural areas, hardships faced by average families to raise their kids, and old traditions. I had watched episodes upon episodes. Every Saturday, this show was aired, and we had kids gathering in our house because a few houses owned a TV. Although it was our black and white screen, we could feel the colour of the reality shows in our lives. These shows were indeed not only a source of entertainment and recreation but also a source of getting an experience about real life. At the end, these things were affecting us to grow positively.
Conversely, reality shows nowadays are shits. They only hit the vulgar trends and play a role in the proliferation of nakedness to get more views and ratings. These shows are not only making our youth toxic but also changing the concept of sincere relationships, beauty, and wealth. A few days back, I and my little cousins and I were watching a Reality TV show named Lazwal Ashiq (Martal Love). Believe me, this show has changed the concept of love. My little cousin asked me, "Cousin Aslam! How many dates have you enjoyed in your University?" Seriously, I was feeling ashamed. I was still surprised this question was asked by our little boy. Additionally, he also mentioned that when he was young, he would make a record of making dates with beautiful girls. It was not his mistake at his age; it was a mistake we didn't have policies to push back these sorts of shows.
The ban on vulgar types of Reality TV shows will be a solution but it is not an appropriate option. We can't crash Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Speech. To get more views and a good ranking is the desire of every TV channel. We need to keep a balance of morality, social ethics, and commitments in shows. We should have strict policies and laws. Also, it is another hurdle to decide what is good to be watched on a realistic basis and what is bad on an unrealistic basis. Hence, I always want to build a thin layer that will bring old era of Reality TV shows that were the gemstone and full of positive perks.
Final Thoughts
We are all men of the modern era, I accept. But it didn't mean to close our eyes to toxic shows. We need to push our government to make effective policies to stop content censorship and to stop content vulgarity. There should be a standard for every show. Freedom of content is justified but freedom of nakedness is unjustified. If we want to grow as a successful nation on this planet then we need to play our positive role. We can engage government bodies for keeping balance of morality and modernism in the shows. These are my thoughts on how to tackle the negativities of Reality TV Shows.
