Astronomers have discovered the strongest evidence yet that LHS 1140b, a rocky planet 49 light-years away, has an atmosphere.
The exoplanet appears to meet the three key requirements for life as we know it:
🪨 Rocky surface
💧 Located in the habitable zone where liquid water could exist
🌫️ Atmosphere detected
Researchers stress that there is no evidence of life on the planet yet. However, this discovery marks a major step toward finding truly Earth like worlds beyond our solar system.
If confirmed by future observations, LHS 1140b could become one of the most promising places to search for signs of life.
