Typical Neapolitan Crib

Hello all dear Hivers friends and welcome back to my blog. Today I am sharing photographs I took of a nativity scene made in a cathedral in Vietri Sul Mare, in the province of Salerno, a city in Campania and part of the nativity tradition.

Making a nativity scene for Neapolitans is a real art, which takes its starting point from a tradition that is more than 1,200 years old.

The traditional Neapolitan nativity scene bears many similarities to the characters of a village reality such as the drunkards, the washerwoman, the baker, the beggar and the unfailing wise men bearing gifts for Jesus.

The most interesting part of a typical nativity scene are the alleys and typical old houses, beautiful glimpses that take us into a very evocative time dimension.

This nativity scene features typical local pottery and small sculptures depicting archaic faces. The fountain is the characteristic element that is never missing in an original nativity scene. I leave you with my best wishes and more photos.

Tipico Presepe napoletano

Ciao a tutti cari amici Hivers e bentornati sul mio blog. Oggi condivido le fotografie che ho scattato ad un presepe realizzato in un duomo di Vietri Sul Mare, in provincia di Salerno, città della Campania e inserita nella tradizione dei presepi. Realizzare un presepe per i napoletani è un arte vera e propria, che prende le mosse da una tradizione antica di oltre 1200 anni. Il presepe tradizionale napoletano presenta molte analogie con i personaggi della realtà di un paesino come ad esempio gli ubriaconi, la lavandaia, la panettiera, il mendicante e i re magi immancabili portatori di doni per Gesù.
La parte più interessante di un presepe tipico sono i vicoli e le case tipiche antiche, scorci bellissimi che ci portano in una dimensione temporale molto suggestiva. In questo presepe sono presenti le tipiche ceramiche del posto, e piccole sculture raffiguranti volti arcaici. La fontana è l'elemento carattersitico che non manca mai in un presepe originale.
