Bees and Flowers
We have a fence of plants from the genus "Spiraea".
I'm not sure which species of plant this is, as they have been here for decades before we moved here. Every spring the bushes are filled with blooming flowers and it attracts very, very many different kinds of insects.
What I love most is that here you can see so many different pollinators. One might think that "bumblebee" is just one kind of insect, but there are very many different kinds of bumblebees. They have very different coloring and they are in varying sizes. I'm no kind of expert with insects, but I'm lucky to have a good opportunity to take some photos of the hungry hungry insects.
The shy bumblebee shows only their butt.
I was surprised to see a ladybug, as most usually I see them hunting for insects in other plants.
A fly, which is not usually seen as a beauty, I really love how good it looks on this photo.
Can you see the huge pollen basket on the back legs of the bumblebee? The large yellow "ball"? They look scary at first, as I thought it was a parasite. But it appears it should look like that, as the pouch is filled with pollen.
The top bumblebee was not supposed to be on the photo, as I tried to get photos of the bumblebee crawling under the flowers.
This is not the only butterfly I saw, but the only one I managed to take photos of. A few butterflies were flying around, but not too many. And they always landed somewhere else on the bush.
The bumblebees, however, were everywhere. Easier to photograph.
This is a fly, not a bee. Don't let it fool you with it's yellow-black striped body.
Just look at the pollen baskets again. They're huge.
