Week 15 Response -- Equal Power Doesn't Exist

I don’t think the power is equal because in our government we have a separation of powers. They have the same amount of power, but they grant different things. I also think that in different cases they can “bend” the rules for others. In different situations the law could mean one thing or the other. I think the reason power isn’t equal is because there are so many different things people have the ability to do. If everyone all had the same power, they would maybe bend the rules for themselves but if they have the ability to do different things there is more collaboration. For example, the Speaker of the House can’t do what the President does. There are so many moving parts to a whole operation to make it successful. That is the same way with the experts and their power.
There is always one expert that has the most power because they have to lead by example. If we didn’t have experts, we would not have any structure. Do I think some of the power experts have is a bit excessive? Yes, but I think it is necessary to have an elected person in that position. Some of the experts have been there for so long and that can be a good thing or a bad thing. If they have seen things that have happened in the past it can help them use that power the right way.
Again, I don’t think they have equal power just because they have the ability to do different things. For example the executive branch can’t do what the legislative branch does but they do work together. The experts have to work together to keep things balanced. I think the way that we are allowing the experts to use their power is the best way because we have been doing it for so long.
