Greetings community! Fixing denim or wide-leg jeans has never been so easy for me until, after many attempts, I finally managed to find the desired technique and made it much easier for me to repair them. I've always said that things only come out when you learn and practice, but not after so many attempts and mistakes 😅🤭.

Today I want to show you how I reduced the waist of my denim shorts after they were way too big and made them fit me. We'll also add a detail to each leg of the shorts, giving them that ripped effect that characterizes jeans. Let's get to work! 🤗

• Descosedor
• Tiza de costura
• Hilo

• Our sewing machine (We will use a size 18 needle for thick fabrics)
• Scissors
• Seam ripper
• Tailor's chalk
• Thread
• Your waist measurement

Paso 01

Step 01

We start by unpicking the lower part of the waistband from the inside. We will open it from the sides and cut the waistband in half, only the inner part (We unpick 10 cm on each side of the waistband).

In my case, I marked where I was going to sew with chalk on the sides of the shorts. In this case, I took 3 cm inwards and sewed. I started sewing from the bottom up of the waistband, cut off the excess fabric, and finished with a zigzag stitch along the edge to prevent the denim fabric from fraying.

Step 03

After sewing the inner part with straight and zigzag stitches, we will cut 1 cm of the excess fabric from the waistband and fold one piece first, then the other, placing the left one first, then the right one folded on top, and placing a pin to prepare the piece for sewing in the next step.

Finally, we sew vertically with a straight stitch right in the center of the outer part of the waistband to seal it. Then we'll make some small cuts in my shorts on the leg and we'll start unraveling the fabric to give it a torn effect. This step requires a lot of patience but the results are wonderful 🤩.

And so our shorts are finished! 🥰 Look at the difference! And the most amazing thing is that they fit me perfectly. This way I was able to fix these and other jeans that were too big.
