The world’s garbage crisis is predicted to grow exponentially in the coming decades as people become richer and increasingly move to urban areas. By 2025, according to a World Bank study, the waste produced by cities around the globe will be enough to fill a line of rubbish trucks 3,100 miles long every day.
Thus, around the world, in the 1990s and early 2000s, recycling became an increasingly profitable business. But this industry should also be backed by governments for more efficiency. The recycling industry is in a state of flux, one that is unlikely to be resolved easily or quickly. But one constant message echoed by councils and recycling companies alike is that now, more than ever, they need households to be vigilant about what they put into the yellow recycling bin.
