Meanwhile Back at the Ranch: Working it.
The last couple of weeks we have been working it. We are preparing for the the winter that we know is coming.
The calves are still locked up together separated from there Moms. We are using the technique called fence line weening. We have the cows in the pasture right next to the calves so they still get to see each other but no more nursing.
The Oregon cow “Lil Red is doing good but she will probably be calving in the dead of winter.
We had to work into the dark to get the windbreak complete and everyone fed on Friday.
But we accomplished our goal so the main herd would have protection in the upcoming storm.
As I am finishing this post I am getting psyched up to go out and shovel. The storm has passed and it was a doozy. I believe there is not as much snow at the ranch as their is here in the Black Hills but we will soon see.
I will leave you with a sunset picture from last week.
Thanks for following our adventure!
All photos were taken by me.
