I've Been There Before
There was a time when I had more debt than I knew how to handle.
The hardest part wasn't even the amount I owed. It was waking up every day with no real source of income and no clear idea of how I was going to pay any of it back. Every bill felt like another reminder that I was falling behind. Every phone notification made me wonder if it was another payment I couldn't make.
Financial stress is different from most kinds of stress. It follows you everywhere. It's there when you wake up, when you're trying to work, when you're with your family, and even when you're trying to sleep. It has a way of making every problem feel bigger than it really is. It can make you feel embarrassed, isolated, and like you're the only person going through it, even though millions of people are facing the same battle.
I wish I could say things changed overnight, but they didn't.
There wasn't one opportunity that fixed everything. There wasn't one lucky break that made the debt disappear. The only thing that changed was my mindset. I accepted that getting out of debt was going to take time, and that I would have to earn my way back one step at a time.
So I worked.
I looked for every honest opportunity I could find. Some days were productive. Some days felt like I had made no progress at all. There were moments when I questioned whether any of my efforts were making a difference. But I kept going because I knew that giving up would only make things harder.
Little by little, things started to change. One payment became another. One small win led to the next. The debt didn't disappear overnight, but the fear slowly started to. I wasn't just paying off debt anymore—I was rebuilding confidence in myself.
Looking back, I'm grateful for what that season taught me. It forced me to be more disciplined with money. It taught me patience, resilience, and the value of building something that lasts instead of looking for quick fixes. Most importantly, it reminded me that difficult situations don't last forever, even when they feel endless.
If you're reading this while carrying debt that feels impossible to overcome, I want you to know that I understand. I know what it's like to stare at numbers that don't seem to make sense. I know what it's like to wonder how you're supposed to move forward when you can barely see a way through.
You're not weak for feeling overwhelmed. You're not a failure because you're struggling. Life can change quickly, and sometimes good people end up in difficult financial situations for reasons they never expected.
I can't promise that the road will be easy, and I can't tell you exactly when things will get better. But I can tell you that they can get better. As long as you keep showing up, keep learning, keep working, and keep believing that your current situation doesn't have to be your permanent one, you're giving yourself a chance.
I've been there before.
And while I wouldn't want to go through it again, I can honestly say it changed me for the better. It taught me that debt doesn't define your worth, and a difficult chapter doesn't define your story. Sometimes, the strongest version of yourself is built during the hardest season of your life.
