As the humid breath of the Ontario summer fades, we stand upon the threshold of a quieter brilliance. For those raised in the traditions of the English tongue, autumn is not merely a change in weather, but a literary homecoming. It is the season of "mellow fruitfulness," where the landscape turns into a cathedral of gold. This poem invites you to witness the dignified retreat of the sun and the first whisper of the hearth, capturing that quintessential British melancholic joy for the turning leaf.

The Amber Ebb

The golden sun begins its slow retreat,
And shadows stretch across the maple floor.
The summer’s pulse, once vibrant, loud and sweet,
Now fades like tides upon a distant shore.

A crispness haunts the morning’s silver mist,
As emerald boughs transform to copper glow.
By cooling winds the quiet woods are kissed,
To prepare the earth for sleep beneath the snow.

The harvest gathered, hearths begin to pine
For amber flames to dance against the gloom.
The year descends in graceful, soft decline,
While autumn weaves its gold upon the loom.

es un festín de fuego y despedida;
