How I Survive the Heat Without Losing My Mind or Melting Like Ice Cream
Hello hivians i feel great to write my post here, am grateful that am welcome here.
Oh, the heat! Sometimes I feel like Nigeria has its own special relationship with the sun like the sun just loves hanging out here a little too much. Honestly, there are days I feel like I’m being roasted like plantain on the roadside!
Heat frustrates me a lot, especially when NEPA decides to show me pepper and takes the light just when I need my fan the most. But over time, I’ve figured out a few ways to survive without losing my mind or turning into boiled yam.
The Struggle is Real
There was one time I took a cold shower, came out feeling fresh and happy, only for sweat to start dripping before I could even get dressed I stood in front of the mirror like, “But I just had my bath nah?” That’s when I knew this heat was personal.
I also remember running to charge my small rechargeable fan during a brief power return holding it like it was a newborn baby. That fan is my best friend in this season.
How I Deal With It
To beat the heat, I
Take multiple cool baths during the day
Use wet towels on my neck and legs it works like magic.
Keep a bottle of cold water or zobo close to me always.
Avoid cooking during the hottest hours of the day I’ve learned the hard way.
Stay in loose cotton clothes and just let the breeze do its thing.
When power is stable, I blast my fan like I’m in a Beyoncé music video hair flying and all.
Heat can cause physical discomfort, the heat can mess with your mood. So I try to stay mentally cool by:
Playing music I love
Watching lighthearted webtoons or dramas
Eating chilled fruits (watermelon)
Even though the heat tries to stress me, I try to laugh through it. Even many time am frustrated like the hell is real but I tell myself, “At least I’m not in the hell now or Sahara desert.
Let me know how do you survive the heat? In the comments
