Derek lives in the hinterland of Mitchat where there are no traditional banking institutions. Most of its inhabitants do not own bank accounts and neither do they even save money in the bank. For years, they have been operating like that even though they record occasional robberies every now and then.

Derek s thought it wise to run thrift wherein he collects monies from the rural dwellers and pay same into a bank in another city. Whenever anyone who saves money with him needs some cash he advances and defrays it from the amount already deposited by such a person.

His thrift business initially could not take off smoothly but when people realized how honest and open Derek is, they decided to save their monies with him. Daily earners and petty traders make up the bulk of savers with Derek. As the business keeps thriving Derek decided to employ more hands such as a treasurer.

This also came with its own challenges. The last treasurer he employed almost wrecked his business as she made away with huge sums of monies without properly reflecting monies collected from customers. Alot of errors were discovered on the final day of collection of their money.

It took the ingenuity of Derek to unravel how the last treasurer made away with huge sums of money. When he finally resolved this nerve wrecking problem, he decided to revert the business back to it's early days, a sole proprietorship.
