Bitcoin Cash: Between Freedom and Fragmentation
The origins of Bitcoin Cash are deeply rooted in a rebellion - a promise to bring back the original vision of Bitcoin. It parted ways not due to greed, but rather due to the strong belief that the crypto world would remain practical and free through larger blocks. However, the freedom they fought for seems quite divided now.
Bitcoin Cash is still in service. Its transactions are speedy, costs are affordable, and its backbone is still very strong. But technology is not the only factor to keep a movement alive. The inner power of the BCH movement - resistance to central authority - has now spread out over different communities those that are together and those that oppose each other, each claiming to protect their own version - Satoshi's. The outcome being quite ironical: a project that champions decentralization is having a difficult time rallying its own supporters.
Ideology was the fire of the BCH but at the same time it was its fault line. Each fork, each internal discussion, disclosed the difficulties in maintaining a balance between the two extremes of purity and pragmatism. A few people consider it an evolution while others think it's a slow death. Regardless, BCH is a constant reminder that decentralization is not merely a technical characteristic - it is a complicated human interaction without power over the other.
BCH has the image of a cypherpunk dream, an obstinate icon in the midst of corporate chains and speculative tokens. Perhaps that is its unnoticed power. Not in terms of market capitalization or media buzz, but in its persistent existence — a sign that ideals, once extracted, are hard to erase.
