Are choices deliberate ?

Analysing situations may lead to surprising results.
Like checking how people react against weaker ones.
And comparing with other living creatures.

Seems to be in the genes since bacteria's era .

The Rats experiment:

When you experimentaly create a community of rats, no matter how many tries you give, they will always organise themselves with some leaders, and at least a victim.

Obviously humans tend to create same schemes.

My questions is thus simple: Are our choices real ? Or are they programmed deep in our DNA ...
Are we in control ? If yes, why can't we learn to become greater than we were up to now?
