Ten things I missed about NYC š¢
Recently I returned from the granddaddy of all Comic-Conās in beautiful San Diego, California. California and San Diego in particular has earned many of its bragging rights a little too easily. Sunshine, beautiful beaches, fresh fish tacos, legalized weed, the ability to wear flip-flops all year longā¦I mean there are so many pluses youād think Iād be ready to grab my family and move @ekpickle and our podcast, ātake it to 2ā and move west.
Well, as wonderful as all of that sounds, itās a definite, āNOā. šš½
They say distance, makes the heart grow fonder, so this morning I awoke to my top ten reasons why I love NYC. (Shout out to David Letterman and his writers for the countdown inspiration and direction)
@agbaba Why I Love me some NYC āŗ
10). Proper Bacon, Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwiches. Why oh why can no one else on the planet make these sandwiches like my local bodega. WTF?
9). Halftime entertainment on your daily subway ride. There is nothing like being hung over, hanging on for dear life, trying to get your ass to work on time only to have the monotony broken up by a homeless guy playing a broken broom like a saxophone and actually being good enough to compete on āAmericaās Got Talentā.
8). Pretty much every street corner looks like a Woody Allen movie set. I just love the fact that not only some of my favorite movies have been shot here but that I can look anywhere, make a full turn and be enchanted by the everyday goings on that unfold.
7). Canāt believe Iām even including these folks⦠ugh tourists. Yep, the dreaded tourist⦠I know, kill me right? You know what though? To see my city through their eyes and experience it like itās new? Might not be anything better. Incredibly sweet and reminds me why I moved to NYC in the first place.
6). Instant home. No matter where you move in the five boroughs, it immediately feels like home. Ask anyone, the three blocks in any direction from their place suddenly gives you a feeling of community. From your local grocery store, dry cleaners, park or bar youāre a āregularā.
5). The Taxi. 24/7, cool before Uber or Lyft. They are OG, who the fuck needs a car?
4). NYC the city that never sleeps. Need I explain more?
3.). Broadway. Okay, as many of you know I really hate musicals mainly because Iāve never been cast in one. What makes up for this organized caterwauling and tap dancing? Plays. Plays and there are loads of them and every variety⦠Shout out to baby Jesus for that.
2). Bodegaās. Donāt know what one is? Bodega is the Spanish word for warehouse or cellar. I think bodega is the Spanish word for genius. How best to describe this NYC institution? A small, market usually on the corner that pulls a neighborhood together (remember that three blocks mentioned in #6? Offers quick grab groceries, beer, BAC sandwiches (see #1), everything from cat litter to school supplies and matches. NYC would fall to ruin if these shops closed. Btw there is usually a fat cat lounging somewhere in the store, donāt act surprised or try to pet it.
1). Okay, the number one spot falls to the people of NYC. From the locals, to those of us that came to the city to find ourselves to the immigrants who came here for a better life. All of us make this city the best and most interesting place in the entire world. Whatās that saying? āIf you can make it here, you can make it anywhere?ā
Okay so thereās my top ten of my city, Iād love to know yours. Come on steemians I know you can do it. Convince me to visit your town or city!
Until next time.
Kisses.
