Tarot Lovers

When you don’t know what to draw, it helps to use some random generator. For my recent birthday, I was given a pack of tarot cards. So I picked a random card — it was The Lovers.

I redrew the tarot card and changed the details. The man and woman no longer see each other. They look lost. They stand near different trees: the Tree of Life is now beside the woman, and the Tree of Knowledge beside the man. They’re both looking far away. They don’t meet each other’s gaze anymore.

The angel now wears dark clothes and rises from a volcanic cloud. I turned the mountain into a volcano. The angel’s eyes are open now.

This drawing turned out to be about lost love — how, once it’s gone, everything looks different. What once felt like a miracle can start to seem like a mistake. The angel becomes something darker. You don’t want to look at each other anymore. You feel completely lost.
