Las piedras dormidas

Mientras cruzo el río orinoco, imagino que estas piedras, o afloramientos graníticos, son animales convertidos en islas.

As I cross the Orinoco River, I imagine that these stone, or granite outcrops, are animals turned into islands.

Hay rostros de gorilas, petrificados, a punto de emerger de la tierra. Como si todavía no se decidieran a poner sus pies sobre ella. Como si el tiempo les hubiese tomado una fotografía que solo nosotros podemos observar.

There are gorilla faces, petrified, about to emerge from the ground. As if they still did not decide to put their feet on it. As if time had taken a photograph of them that only we can observe.

Hay tortugas y dinosaurios escondidos entre la vegetación. ¡Quién sabe qué otros animales se han convertido en islas, en esculturas, en fotografía! ¿Cuándo despertarán estas piedras dormidas?

There are turtles and dinosaurs hidden among the vegetation. Who knows what other animals have become islands, sculptures, photography! When will these sleeping stones wake up?
