A's continue to struggle as they get crushed by the Yankees | J.T. Ginn on the mound for game two
Well, if it wasn't official already, I think it's certainly official now. The A's are in a legit slump. After getting smacked by the Yankees yesterday, the A's have now lost six of their last seven games.
A's starting pitcher Luis Severino struggled big time and was pulled from the game after just one inning due to shoulder soreness. It turns out he's got a right shoulder strain, and is going to be placed on the 15-day IL. Tough to see for Severino, and kinda wild it happened against his former team.
Severino's injury comes only days after starting pitcher Aaron Civale was also sent to the 15-day IL due to shoulder tendinitis. So now two starting pitchers are unavailable for a bit, brutal!
This news only seems more spooky during this slump. But hey, better now than later in the year I guess. Hopefully they both recover smoothly.
Besides the pitching having issues, this offense continues to struggle as well. The A's had eight hits yesterday but just couldn't get runners across home plate nearly enough. Nick Kurtz did hit his 9th homer at least.
The A's won the first series they played against the Yankees back in April, it would be pretty cool if they could somehow win these next two games and win the season series against them. It won't be easy with how they've looked but ya never know. The Yankees have one of the best pitching rotations in the MLB too.
J.T. Ginn has had a really strange few starts for the A's. In general he's looked really good but in recent history it's been a bit strange. He nearly had a no-hitter May 18th, and then on the 23rd he looked terrible. But in general, unless he has another bad start I guess, he's trending upwards lately.
Tonight's a big test for everyone including Ginn. This is a major moment of the season it feels like, with the team slumping and two injured starting picthers. Maybe Ginn can play Superman on the mound, and maybe the offense can produce more, they're certainly due.
A's, Phillies, and Western Conference Finals Game 7! Fun night ahead.
