The name of Moscow is derived from the Moscow River. In Greek, it means "castle" and the Slavic language is "the walled city of stonemason." There are three sayings about the source of the Moscow River: low-lying wetlands (Slavic), Niudukou (Finnish-Ugric), and jungle (Kbalda). The earliest history of the Moscow city as a settlement was in 1147 AD. In 1156, the founder of Moscow, Yuri Dolgoruki, built the Kremlin Castle in Moscow.
