Social Democracy in America Part 20 The Myth of De-Industrialization
Both modern parties in America have largely supported de-industrialization. The Republicans supported it for the profits of the business class.
The Democrats sold it with the idea that the days of dirt under the fingernails were behind us and a new tech day had dawned. Americans were to be the engineers and programmers of the world, and the rest of the world could do the dirty work of making things.
But either through corruption, stupidity or both, they failed to notice one simple truth. Manufacturing companies don't just employ hand workers.
There are managers, supervisors, programmers, accountants, payroll, buyers, sales, secretaries, HR, PAs, et al, not to mention the support jobs and businesses that depend on the income of the employees.
America wasn't even warned of the plan, it just went on in the halls of Washington D.C. with no warning allowing for the preparation of an entirely new economy.
There was no aid in retraining, in fact, the cost of education rose over 1000%.
Since the dawn of time, we have had to make the things we need, but for the first time, several societies have decided to opt out and like slave owners, have someone else do the work. But, this isn't a plantation with one owner and a bunch of slaves abroad, it's a society with a handful of slave owners, and millions who are unemployed replaced by slaves.
This documentary series is designed to be an outreach to the politically uninitiated.
It is meant to pierce the academic echo chamber and reach the majority of society that only seems to get information that is either truthful but wonky and arcane or easily digestible but propaganda and thoroughly dishonest. Afterall, Democracy is based on the majority. The small esoteric group of academics and assorted leftists is not a majority and needs to cultivate outreach beyond their circles.
It is therefore generalized to avoid going deep into the minutiae, with the attempt at framing the issues honestly within the confines of explaining it to people of all education levels or lack thereof.
