Exhibition about OFI - to Celebrate the 100 years of the club

OFI was founded in 1925 in Heraklion, at a time when sport was becoming an important part of social and cultural life in Crete. From its earliest days, the club was more than just a football team, it was a symbol of unity, identity, and local pride. Built by the people of the city, OFI quickly grew into a multi-sport organization, reflecting a broader vision of athletic participation and community engagement.

One of the most remarkable and lesser-known facts from its early history is that OFI had already formed a women’s volleyball team as early as 1928. At a time when women’s participation in organized sports was extremely limited, this initiative highlights how progressive and inclusive the club was from the very beginning. It shows that OFI was not only following the evolution of sport, but, in some ways, leading it.

Throughout the decades, OFI experienced both great triumphs and difficult periods. From historic achievements and strong presences in Greek competitions to financial struggles and rebuilding phases, the club has continuously fought to stand tall.
