Learning: A Never-ending Process
You start to depreciate when you stop to learn
These words were inscribed on the door to the entrance of my friend's office who is the principal of a school. Of course there is truism in the words because one of the fundamental proofs of the existence of humankind is continuous learning. The world is ever changing, newer discoveries are made, new requirements are unveiled, and new methods are heralded. In view of this, you will need to update yourself on the knowledge of all these. Learning is not optional, but mandatory, if you want to remain relevant in this world that keeps getting complex and full of competition.

Whether you like it or not, and whether you are aware of it or not, there is an intense competition going on which you are already part of by default. The way to maintain an edge over the competition is to know and keep learning. The truth is that if you know what most of the people do not, you are already a step ahead of them. Knowledge is among what distinguishes people, so keep going for it. Trust me, knowledge is also dynamic as the world itself - so the knowledge you have many years ago about a thing might have either changed or become obsolete. This is why you need to keep updating on what you know.
Learning is not what you do once and then keep off, rather it is a continuous process and an attempt to be better than you were. More so, you also need to understand that learning is not exclusively preserved for schools alone. That is, it is not just the formal process. Even at home, at work, with your interaction with people, from your environment, you can learn a couple of things too. The quest to know more is what makes you to know more. No wonder it is also said that curiosity is the initiator of learning and of discoveries. Now one may ask what the benefits of continuous learning are. Here, we shall take a look at a couple of them.
The first and very important benefit of continuous learning is for personal growth. It is worthy to note that the more you learn, the more you grow. Of course, improvement comes with learning and it can be seen as growth. If you will relate to your life's experience, you will understand that before you learnt what you are good at now, you saw it as an uphill task. However, after learning it, it made you better and even created the desire to learn more. This is personal growth. In order to see the world from a better perspective and to broaden your horizon, you need to learn and know more.
The next one is to be better at problem solving. There are some problems that face a lot of people which the root is only in their sheer ignorance. That is, if they are willing to learn, they will be able to figure out the solutions. Just like in mathematics, there are some questions that you only need to apply the formula and you will be faced with the answers. But until you know the formula, you cannot apply it. Knowledge is like the formula of life and until you go for it, there are some life's challenges that you cannot go pass.

In addition to this, increase in knowledge also increases one's confidence level. Trust me, there is a level of confidence that you build when you gain more knowledge about something. Take for example; if you are called upon to make a public presentation about a topic you know little to nothing about, you will lose your morale and may even fidget on the stage. However, if you have gained enough knowledge about the topic, it will show in your confidence level. You will not even be scared of questions being thrown at you because you know you will definitely deliver. You see why knowledge is among the indispensable necessities of life.
The last point why you need to keep learning is that it leads to fulfilment and it secures the future. There is a level of personal fulfilment that one gets by learning new things. As a matter of fact, the more you learn and know, the more you discover how very little you have known all these while. So you will have the quest to learn more and by that, be fulfilled that you did. More so, learning is among the ways to secure the future because what you learnt today might be what you will need for sustenance tomorrow. So do not stop learning.
