WHO AM I?

WHO AM I?

Mirror mirror on the wall
Who is the fairest of them all?
And when I say fairest...
I mean that literally, in earnest

Mirror, mirror on the wall
Do I search for my flaws?
Oh, but I do, every single day
Alas, I'm but human and I'm allowed to be vain

Nevertheless, when I look in that glass
I do not often check to see a fine lass
At least, not on the outside
I'm more about the woman, who lives inside

I see my outward appearance
And I wonder how this a the reflection of my heart's utterance
The face of she who lives in my head
Who daily, my soul mends

Does she fit?
Is she "it"?
Worthy and kind?
The questions nearly drive me out of my mind

I'm aware I'm beautiful
I tell my self daily, to make the confidence full
They call it self love, these days
But a question lies deep within, always
-Am I beauty full?

I've heard men say no one truly knows who they are
-Not as much as another, who sees the truth, and the lie
The laugh I let out
If only they know the thoughts I do not let out

Who wakes up from the nightmares that plague my night?
Who feels the fears that fill me with fright?
Who knows the dreams that keep me awake?
And the voice of caution that keeps me from going astray?

Perhaps, I do not completely know
But you do not either, no
It remains a million dollar quest-
Who am I? The ultimate question

This woman in the mirror
Who cries, and laughs and lives through sorrow
How did I come to be?
What purpose is there for me?

Why did I come to be?
Am I being all that I can be?
Is there a better place to reach?
Are my goals out of my reach?

Who am I?
The joy? The sadness?
The one who lets depressions plunge her to deep depths?
Or the one, who struggles to stay afloat
When hope is lost, and there are no boats?

The one who cries when a needle pricks?
Or the one who cannot shed a tear
For a loved one, dead
For she understands, the finality
Of death

One extreme to another
Daily, I see new sides that make me wonder
As much as I have asked,
Sought for answers
I am aware, the question will always linger

Nevertheless, I shall trudge ahead
Perhaps, this knowledge,
Is not for me to gain
Slowly, peace I have made

What matters is not who I am
'Tis who I can be, my potential
So I shall strive to achieve
The best version of me there can be
For what is worth doing
Is worth well, slaying
