SURUGEDE DANCE (PART ONE)

Surugede dance is equally known as dance of disillusioned. An Igbo proverb says ‘A child that dances to the sweet melody of SURUGEDE does not know surugede is the song of the spirits.

In the ancient time of Africa, owning large expanses of farm was a symbol of wealth and wives were used to measure social status

It was the annual wrestling festival, were powerful warlords comes together in a wrestling competition. The winner is honored as the most powerful man on earth.

There lived a man named Fijabi, he was a very great and powerful warlord, his services was hired across kingdoms and kings were at logger heads offering bags of golds and hefty spoils of war to woo him to their own sides of the battle. Rumor has it that his presence alone in the battle field is enough for the enemy to surrender. Some said he is a direct descendant of the gods, he was taller than all men, his feet thunders, announcing his presence from afar even before eyes sees him, he sure have the features of a god, he was invincible in the battle field. The more battle he won, the wider his fame spread across the kingdom.

The men were envious of him and they all wonder why a man could be so large and mighty that non of them could beat him to surrender. The women sang his praises
