According to the Economist's excess death model, the US has had over 1 million excess deaths through December 18th. Or a death rate of 324 per 100k.
Ukraine has had 178k excess deaths through November 30th. Or a death rate of 410 per 100k.
The two countries had similar excess death rates till the Delta wave. Ukraine's low vaccination rate led to a very deadly wave of excess deaths this past Fall.
The country with the highest excess death rate this pandemic is Bulgaria with a death rate through January 16th of 903 per 100k. In other words 0.9% of the population this pandemic.
The Economist estimates 20.5 million excess deaths occurred globally this pandemic or nearly 4x the confirmed coronavirus death toll.
