[ENG/ESP] 5-minute daily message : Resilience / Mensaje diario de 5 minutos: Resiliencia
Resilience isn't that grandiose gesture we see in movies, where the hero defeats the monster at the last second. No, resilience is much quieter and, at the same time, much more rebellious.
We live in an era that demands we be resilient as if it were a supermarket product: Buy resilience, be strong, don't complain, keep going. But that pretty version of resilience is a trap. That's not the real thing.
Genuine resilience hurts. And it hurts because it's not about ignoring the pain, but about sitting it down and looking it in the eye. It's about knowing that the world has crumbled, that the ground has disappeared beneath your feet, and still choosing to stay. Not out of heroism, but because, sometimes, staying is the only act of rebellion left to you.
The psychologist Viktor Frankl summed it up in a devastating way: When we are unable to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. That is the key. Resilience isn't about controlling what happens outside, but about deciding what we do with what happens inside.
But here's the nuance that almost no one mentions: resilience is collective. We are not islands. We rebuild ourselves because someone lends us a hand, because a word arrives at the right moment, or because we share silence with someone who understands us without needing explanations. The resilient individual is a myth. Real resilience is a fabric woven between two people.
And there's something else: resilience isn't linear. It's not about falling and getting up just once. It's about falling, getting up, falling again, crawling, staying still for a while, and perhaps getting up again tomorrow. It's a back-and-forth, a spiral, not an arrow pointing upwards.
That's why being resilient also means allowing yourself not to be. It's having the courage to say "I can't today," to cry without filters, to ask for help, and to accept that fragility isn't a flaw, but the clearest proof of our humanity.
In the end, resilience is like moss growing in cracks in asphalt. It doesn't conquer the asphalt, it doesn't destroy it, but it finds its way. It takes advantage of the slightest moisture and the tiniest crevice to remind us that life, however hostile the environment, always finds a way to persist. Not to conquer, but to persist.
And that, perhaps, is the best thing we can do: persist, in our own way, without masks and with our hearts on our sleeves.

No somos islas.
