Agfa Pioneer (Toy Camera)

As film cameras go, this one is about as basic as they come. The Agfa Pioneer is a neatly shaped box with a lens, shutter release, toggle for instant or bulb shutter release settings and apparently a small slot to attach a flash (of which I do not have). There really isn't much that differentiates this camera from a box camera save for it's shape.

This particular camera is sized for Agfa's PD16 film, or a more common 616 type film. At the time of film loading I did not have any 616 sized film, which is larger than the 120 size film that I do have. 120 film will fit... sort of. You'll see that 120 film does not quite fit the entire frame size that the camera is sized for (I guess we're looking at an early form of cropped film sensor) and that there is space on the top and bottom. The width for each frame is also different so to avoid double exposures (which I did not), the film would need to be advanced just a little further between each exposure to account for the difference.

I forget where I found this camera; it was probably at a yard sale or something for $5, but it's a fun one to play with. It literally is a point and shoot camera.

This was the clearest picture that I had from my first developed roll from the camera. This was taken at Brandywine Creek State Park in Delaware, and is a picture of one of the long stone barriers that run through the park.

These next two pictures show the double exposure that resulted from not advancing the film as far as it should between exposures:

Through the magic of GIMP I was able to stitch the two pictures together:

Should I use this camera again (I probably will) with 120 film (it's common) I know that I'll need to advance about 1.5 times between each picture, and then ensure that whomever develops it knows what to look for.

And one last picture of an outdoor antique fair held near a wonderful old Episcopal Church with a big clock tower:
