Bitcoin ETFs hitting the market was a clear signal for the rest. It was no doubt Ethereum was next in line. And now, Ethereum exchange Traded Funds are live!! Its official. For some investors, this is the start of something big, a bridge between The Decentralized world of Ethereum and the Traditional Finance. Lets take a look at what this really means for the DeFi ecosystem.

What is an ETF anyway?

An Exchange Traded-Fund aka ETF is the purchase of an asset through the traditional stock market. Investors are allowed to buy ETF shares. So instead of buying and storing in a wallet, you own it in the form of a share and just track the price.

Sound simple right? Wait until you hear the full story. ETFs are the gate way to inflow of huge amount of Institutional money that wont even touch a crypto wallet. Such as pensions, hedge funds, and retirement accounts etc.

The Difference between Ethereum ETFs and Bitcoin ETFs

Bitcoin ETfs were more and merely about digital gold giving investors a safer way to bet on Bitcoin store of value narrative. And in the other hand, Ethereum ETFs is not just betting on the asset but on the entire ecosystem (platform). Ethereum ETFs ownership is more than just owning a digital asset, it’s like owning a fuel for NFTs, DeFi, Liquidity Staking, DAOS and of course the entire on-chain innovations. Hence, an ETF pump demand for Ethereum is not just a price speculation, it is fuelling the base layer of DeFi.

My take

Ethereum ETFS comes with both pros and cons. They will definitely bring in the money, credibility and bigger exposure, the major ingredients for a bull run. The other side is the question of decentralization of the project. The fear of the boys – Blackrock, Fidelity, etc getting their hands on the steering wheels.

Yet still, we are bullish on Ether and Ethereum, but to how far that may get depends on the team and adaptation from the community and investors. More eyes on ethereum means more eyes on Decentralized finance protocols.
