Talk-It-Out Thursday's ‘Feeling Overwhelmed for days in a stretch’
How does depression happen?
First, we should understand what depression means;
Depression is a mental state of low mood and aversion to activity. It affects more than 280 million people of all ages (about 3.5% of the global population). Depression affects a person's thoughts, behaviour, feelings, and sense of well- sense of well-being. Depressed people often experience a loss of motivation or interest in, or reduced pleasure or joy from, experiences that would normally bring them pleasure or joy.
When I have so many things to get done and those I get done I am unable to get the result I desire.
This week has been a hassle. Where I feel angry and or sad reacting so poorly towards people around me either through an unnecessarily raised voice or a frown that rather spreads gloom.
I can be in my right senses right now and share this with you because I have struggled some days easier than others to intentionally call myself to order through counselling therapy on one day, motivational quotes and encouragement from my lovely circle of Hivians, pouring my heart out to God and today an extra of joyful songs of gratitude, love and peace embedded in praises.
I had an unnecessary outburst towards my brother where he had to state ‘Why are you raising your voice?’
I did have a long list of the many things bothering me and non of which involved him. Then whilst walking back home I began to sing to myself although to the hearing of those who passed by me whilst I walked. I didn't have a care in the world, I let it out so joyfully that I was all smiles and genuinely happy from deep within when I finally met up with my brother not to mention the many people I came across with the broadest and brightest smiles.
The experience of feeling overwhelmed off and on has me understanding in tiny bits what depression can look like.
SO MANY FEELINGS BOXED UP
I have felt alone.
I have felt abandoned.
I have felt gloomy and sad
I have lost interest in the driving force of life.
I have backed out of jobs expecting the worst.
I have felt stagnant.
Most importantly I have survived and still thriving.
What staying in a state of negativity yields is so much more negativity as though it is lined up for an autograph from it's biggest fan - the depressed.
One of my many motivational sayings👇
Have faith in the journey, for it is through the valleys of life that we learn the true power of our spirit. In the face of doubt and uncertainty, faith becomes our guiding light, illuminating the path ahead and giving us the strength to persevere. Believe in yourself and your abilities, for with faith, you can conquer any challenge that comes your way.
