When coin collecting is life....
The Royal mint really know how to profit from us silly coin collectors. Ever since they released the 2012 Olympic Games 50 pence and reignited "joe blogs'" interest in everyday coins, they have milked it for all they can.
Of the several tens of millions of 50p coins release back in 2012, it is said that less than 10% now remain in circulation due to the fact that most people collect them.
After the Olympic coins, came the Peter Rabbit 50p coins into circulated currency, this also got everyone excited and these were quickly all snapped up and removed from circulation due to collectors.
Now the ROYAL MINT has released its 10 pence series, celebrating everything British. I'm guessing as soon as these become widely circulated, they will all be snapped up and hard to come by....
Im not admitting to being a complete dork, but I do follow the RM on Facebook. So when this popped up this morning, I knew I had to go check it out.
Now I wouldn't traveled half way across the country to get this, but since I live less than a 5 minute drive away, I had to go and get some.
"ONLY ONE PER PERSON"!!! So I dragged Mrs welshstacker and 1/2pint out, gave them 10p and off we went.
I don't usually buy the presentation packs to store the coins as I feel its a total rip off. But since they also offered 2 extra coins included in the offer I bought a pack
So what did i get:
For the exchange I got 3 X 10p; R(Robin), D(double decker bus) and N(NHS).
My 2 free coins were; Z(zebra crossing) and V(villages)
Plus in my change from buying the collectors book I got another R.
6 new collectable coins in total.
More great news is that they will be doing thus "swap-shop" every Sunday so I'll definitely be going back.
