No les ha pasado que cuando ven que eres responsable, atenta, haces tus tareas y llegas siempre a tiempo, te dicen que eres nerd… pues esto pasa mucho en el colegio y quizá en la universidad.

Quizá el término está un poco mal usado, pero como a alguien que le dijeron algunas veces eso… pues hasta hace un tiempo lo veía como algo malo, porque así lo hacían parecer. Alguien que hace su tarea, presenta a tiempo sus proyectos, es responsable, en fin.

Y eso me hizo pensar que desde pequeños tenemos esas improntas que ni siquiera las cuestionamos, sólo las aceptamos porque así lo usaron y lo usan. Y a veces suele estar tan claras las cosas o a la vista, pero quizá por miedo o porque siempre fue así, nosotros no decimos nada.

Entonces fue que vi una imagen en internet donde hablaban sobre “ser nerd”, y me hizo pensar que no tiene nada de malo serlo, todo lo contrario, tiene un significado muy bueno y más si lo usan como adjetivo hacia una persona.

Charlando con la IA y analizando varias páginas, me dio como resultado que nerd significa: “persona apasionada por el conocimiento, la tecnología, la ciencia o temas técnicos específicos, a menudo caracterizada por una inteligencia sobresaliente y un enfoque intenso en intereses de nicho, en lugar de convencionalismos sociales”.

Así como esta palabra, hay muchas otras que seguramente le hemos dado un significado diferente a lo que es o le hemos dado un significado negativo. Y esto pasa desde que somos niños, porque nos han metido a la cabeza, ya sea en casa, colegio, noticias, televisión y en muchos lugares más.

Como les iba comentando, en el colegio sí me decían nerd y lo hacían ver como algo malo, porque se burlaban, se reían, en fin, me hacían sentir mal. Pero hoy en día pasa todo lo contrario ya que lo tomo a bien, como un cumplido.

En otros casos se vio que por ser “nerd”, en el caso de los chicos, aparte del bullying verbal también era físico, entonces todo eso generaba que los estudiantes no hicieran sus tareas, todo con el objetivo de que los demás no se enteren que hicieron sus deberes.

Imagínense a que punto uno debía llegar para quizá entrar en lo común, no sobresalir y pasar desapercibido, creo que eso afectó a varios niños. En mi caso si me afectó, porque me daba miedo responder a las preguntas del profesor, sólo me quedaba callada como si no supiera la respuesta.

O una vez que quizá por error, mencioné que había un trabajo que realizar, pero al parecer nadie había hecho esa tarea entonces ahí si recuerdo que me abuchearon y me molestaron, más bien no fue tanto, pero si sentí mucha vergüenza y temor.

Imagino que no soy la única que ha pasado por todo esto, pero lo más importante en este tipo de historias es aprender y comprender el porqué de las cosas. Ahí también aprendí sobre las improntas y me hizo mucho sentido de cómo pensaba y cómo me comportaba ante ciertas cosas.

Quizá me di cuenta un poco tarde de todo esto, pero pudo ser peor y nunca enterarme jeje. Si les ha pasado algo similar me gustaría leerlos, a veces tenemos ideas erróneas sobre ciertos temas y es un buen espacio para disiparlas.

Maybe the term is a little misused, but as someone who has been called that a few times... well, until recently, I saw it as a bad thing, because that's how they made it seem. Someone who does their homework, submits their projects on time, is responsible, in short.

And that made me think that from an early age we have these impressions that we don't even question, we just accept them because that's how they were used and are used. And sometimes things are so clear or obvious, but perhaps out of fear or because it has always been that way, we don't say anything.

Then I saw an image on the internet where they talked about “being a nerd,” and it made me think that there's nothing wrong with being one. On the contrary, it has a very good meaning, especially when used as an adjective to describe a person.

Chatting with AI and analyzing several pages, I concluded that nerd means: “a person who is passionate about knowledge, technology, science, or specific technical topics, often characterized by outstanding intelligence and an intense focus on niche interests rather than social conventions.”

Just like this word, there are many others that we have surely given a different meaning to than what it actually is, or we have given it a negative meaning. And this has been happening since we were children, because it has been drummed into our heads, whether at home, school, in the news, on television, or in many other places.

Imagine the lengths one had to go to in order to perhaps fit in, not stand out, and go unnoticed. I think that affected several children. In my case, it did affect me because I was afraid to answer the teacher's questions. I just kept quiet as if I didn't know the answer.

Or once, perhaps by mistake, I mentioned that there was an assignment to do, but apparently no one had done that homework, so I remember that they booed me and teased me. It wasn't that bad, but I felt very ashamed and afraid.

I imagine I'm not the only one who has gone through all this, but the most important thing in these kinds of stories is to learn and understand why things happen. That's also where I learned about imprints, and it made a lot of sense to me in terms of how I thought and behaved in certain situations.
