Trousers

In my childhood, it was normal for girls to wear a dress or skirt. To be a bit warm, tights were worn. Those tights were always itchy and the crotch was always too low. An occasional girl sometimes wore trousers.

Although I was obliged to wear skirts and dresses as a child, I continued to do so for many years. Trousers don't fit me. With long legs and a high waist, the legs were always too short and the waistband sat so low that my trousers sagged.

Braces could then be a solution. I used to have those once in a while. As ready-made clothes rarely or never fit, buying clothes is a misery and I always postpone it as long as possible.

By now I have lost a lot of weight and wear 2 trousers and 2 jumpers size M on top of each other in the hope of staying warm. This is not easy, by the way, because I am bad at keeping myself warm and my trousers fall down. In general, I don't find the trousers on sale very elegant. Certainly not the standard trousers meant for girls and women. The designer of these clearly assumes that every woman has thick thighs, a fat behind and a fat belly. Who invents such a thing?

The high-waisted, flared trousers are hard to find and not suitable oor winter and country living. Can you see me mucking out a stable with those, digging up the ground to walk around with water boots?
Flared trousers can be beautiful especially if they resemble a long skirt. I do wear long dresses or skirts. In summer, I roll them up, tie the hem above my knees and work in the garden or scrub the floors that way. I find skirts and dresses more elegant, more feminine than trousers. For me, long trousers are an unpleasant, inelegant necessity and should I stop going outside often or move to a place where mud and sheep dung no longer play a role, I will never wear trousers again.
Incidentally, I think the ugliest trousers are the trouser skirts.
