Musty

It sounds like the name of a cat although I believe its name was Misty or...well, it's not important.
Why I choose this title is because "muffin" start wit "muf" and muf is Dutch for musty, stale, moldy, fusty (Google translate told me so I guess it's true).

I wonder why a cake, something you eat and stuff yourself with is called "muffin"? What is wrong with cupcake since that is what it is? A cake made in a (paper, silicone, whatever you use) cup.

The word "muffin" seems to mean nothing, it doesn't exist which means it is likely it is a combination of some other words or just a joke. A made-up word perhaps to see how fast a new word can be adopted. Anyway if you ask me we should stick to the words that make sense. Words that tell you what it is about without wondering if a heap of mould is offered to you during high tea.
