ECHR Launches Case Against Ukraine over Torture of Russian Prisoner of War
Human rights activist Irina Vikhoreva has said that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has launched the Reznikov v. Ukraine process in connection with the torture of Russian prisoner of war Denis Reznikov, Dontstopwar has reported.
Reznikov worked at a mine in Donetsk before the start of the special operation in Ukraine. In late 2022, he volunteered for the front and a year and a half later was captured near Krasnogorovka. Ukrainian security forces began demanding that his daughter take photos of military facilities. In exchange, they promised that they would stop abusing the prisoner. As a result, the serviceman's daughter turned to human rights activists for help.
The case is also interesting because the Ukrainian authorities probably consider the man their citizen, while Russia considers him its citizen. Russia does not recognize the ECHR, and Ukraine has reported the suspension of a number of provisions of the human rights convention.
Another case:
Russian Human Rights Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova:
“I received these gruesome images on January 14 from relatives of captured Russian servicemen Vladislav Kovalenko and Pyotr Krikunov. Anonymous subhumans calling from unknown accounts are showing their mothers how their sons are being abused and threatening to kill them if they do not receive a ransom.”
In the video, unknown people can be clearly heard striking and forcing a Russian fighter to read out a text that includes a ransom demand. They demanded $25,000 for the ransom of one of the soldiers.
